Illegal Immigration.

It is a subject that should be at the forefront of politics today, but it's not.

Every year the Border Patrol makes more than a million arrests of people who flagrantly violate U.S. laws by unlawfully crossing the border to work and to receive publicly-funded services, often with the aid of fraudulent documents. Such entry is a misdemeanor and, if repeated, becomes punishable as a felony.

Arizona is on the right track. Arizona voters approved Proposition 200 on 2 November, 2004; 56 percent to 44 percent.
The initiative, which could result in jail time for government workers who don't report illegal immigrants trying to obtain some services, requiring "proof of citizenship to register to vote, photo ID to vote, and proof of eligibility for non-federally mandated public benefits".

Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. Those that are affected the most are the poor, children, and minorities.
How?
Simple.
Illegal immigration drains public funds from other sectors that are in need.
A study of the costs of immigration by the National Academy of Sciences found that the taxes paid by immigrants do not cover the cost of services received by them.

We cannot provide high quality education, health care, and retirement security for our own people if we continue to bring in endless numbers of poor, unskilled immigrants.

The money that they make here is sent back to the country they came from to support families there, or to bring more illegal immigrants to America. THis is a drain on our economy and a boost to their respective homeland's economy.

Illegal immigration causes the population of communities across America to be overwhelmed. Schools are overcrowded, natural resources are used up at a higher rate than they can be replenished. Water, power, fuel, and forests are all being affected by the illegal immigration problem.

All of America would benefit if illegal immigrants were denied employment, public assistance benefits, public education, public housing, or any other taxpayer-funded benefits.

The three major components of immigration control--deterrence, apprehension and removal--need to be strengthened by Congress and the Executive Branch if effective control is ever to be a reality.
When I say strengthened, I also mean that those laws that are on the books, should be enforced with zeal.

The cost of enforcing our laws would be offset by the savings that the states, and the federal government saves in reducing the benefits given to illegal immigrants.

Enough is enough!
Write your representatives, both state and federal, and let them know where you stand on this issue.

I have made a change in how this blog will operate.

I have enlisted the help of three other Veterans.

Their input will help this blog keep pace with events and issues that we deem to pertinant to us.

When any of us author something for this blog it will be posted along with the name of the author.

I hope this will generate more interest in this blog and give everyone a view of our perspectives on different issues.

This will also give this blog more posts, which is the intent.

Get the UN Out of the United States Now!

It is high time for the United States to get out of the UN, now!

This body of nations is an absolute travesty of the highest order. The US pays 22% of the budget.

From the Federal Office of Germany (Auswärtiges Amt):

The scale of assessments for contributions to the regular budget is determined every 3 years on the basis of GNP and ranges from a maximum of 22% of the budget (USA) to a minimum of 0.001% (developing countries). Apart from these contributions, the regular budget is funded from revenues from the sale of items such as UN souvenirs, special stamps, books and brochures.

Why are we bearing the brunt of the UN's follies?
This organization is a failure and should be sent packing. France comes to mind.

I am in agreement with the New Hampshire legislature. The following is a bill that has been introduced by them:

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Five

A RESOLUTION urging Congress to withdraw the United States from the United Nations.

Whereas, the United States is the greatest nation in the world, and is known for its compassionate people who are generous and kind in caring for the needs of those in other countries and whose resources are used worldwide to alleviate hunger and poverty; and

Whereas, the United States is called upon to defend the rights and freedoms of people in other nations, as only we have the capacity to do so as a world superpower; and

Whereas, these responsibilities create an immense burden on the citizens of this country, many of whom are in need and living in poverty themselves; and

Whereas, United States military forces are called upon to bear the brunt of any conflicts that may arise, while other nations stay on the sidelines, and expect the United States to fight its battles; and

Whereas, the United States provides the largest share of the financial burden for the United Nations, paying hundreds of millions of dollars each year that could be used to address many of the nation's challenges, including homelessness, education, law enforcement, poverty, a strong military, and the war against terrorism; and

Whereas, many of the members of the United Nations are not friendly to the United States, and support many things that are detrimental to the country and against its interests, yet expect the United States to provide the finances and manpower to solve all of the world's problems, even putting the lives of the nation's military forces in danger; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the New Hampshire general court respectfully, but firmly requests, that the United States Congress:

I. Take measures to dissolve the membership of the United States in the United Nations, thereby freeing the nation from a large financial burden and retaining its sovereignty to decide what is best for the country; and

II. Take the steps that it considers appropriate as the leader of the free world, with full control of its armed forces and destiny; and

That a copy of this Resolution, signed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate, be forwarded by the House Clerk to the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the members of the New Hampshire Congressional delegation.

New Hampshire has also in the past introduced an "AN ACT" (HB 1193) establishing a committee to study the constitutionality of the federal income tax and Constitutional abuses in the collection of the income tax, and its effects on New Hampshire citizens. This bill establishes a committee to study the constitutionality of the federal income tax and Constitutional abuses in the collection of the income tax, specifically as it affects New Hampshire citizens.

HJR 23 introduced in 2004, dealt with election law, specifically:

"This joint resolution urges Congress to transmit to the states for ratification an amendment to the United States Constitution returning the authority to choose United States Senators to the state legislatures."

According to retired Judge J.J. Boesel, America's participation in the United Nations is unconstitutional, because it violates many clauses of the U.S. Constitution, and violates the rights of the individual states of the Union under the Tenth Amendment. (search) This bill in the New Hampshire General Court (state legislature) is new, and is now in committee.

Iposted it in its entirety, because I felt that it deserved it.

Cal Thomas did a piece in the Washington Times that I feel has merit. I agree with him too, on this issue.

The UN wants to control the world not with the democracies that should control the world, but with the despots of lawless nations and terrorist supporters.

Our "contributions" to the UN are supporting third world countries that are hell bent on destroying democracy.
It needs to stop now.

The UN doesn't have the nuts to back up its own resolutions, never mind feed the hungry, or house the desperate refugees from these third world maniacs.
When it needs the nuts to enforce something, it comes running to the US, or just waits until the US has had enough of their bloviating on the matter, and deals with it on her own.
